Island & dining questions
How high should pendants hang over an island?
The bottom of each pendant 30–36″ (76–91 cm) above the counter. On a standard 36″ counter that puts it about 66–72″ (168–183 cm) from the floor.
Do I need a ceiling box for every pendant?
Yes, each pendant needs its own junction box. If you only have one box, choose a single larger pendant or a chandelier.
Can I mix different pendants?
You can, but a row of the same pendant looks calmer. To mix, keep the same finish or the same height and vary only the shape.
My island is very long. What then?
Over 96″ (244 cm), use three pendants, spaced evenly, with at least 6″ (15 cm) from each end of the island.
